Glass Engraving

The photo at the upper right is my glass engraving machine called Spatzier, which was made in Germany. I use sintered diamond wheel (industrial synthetic diamond grit) and copper wheel in various shapes and dimensions. Usually, I use diamond wheels to carve glass into shapes and/or engrave designs on glass, and then use a copper wheel to add textures and for polishing.

The one at the bottom right shows copper wheel being shaped with a knife blade. The wheel needs to be re-shaped quite often as it deforms when carving the glass. Although engraving requires patience, and shaping the wheel is time-consuming, the copper wheel provides unlimited variety of soft and beautiful surface finishes. For instance, polishing with coarse grit makes the glass look exactly like sea glass.
